Sir,

I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that

the Commander-in-Chief, China Station, has directed me, with the assistance of the Flag Commander and the Naval Intelligence Officer at Hongkong, to make arrangements with Your Excellency's Government for baking over such of the signalling positions of Hongkong as will be of use to the Navy,

2. Such positions have been indicated in former corres- pondence with Your Excellency by the Naval Commander-in-Chief

and comprise:-

(a)

(b)

(c)

Cape D'Aguilar as a signal station and for Wireless

Telegraphy apparatus,

Victoria Peak as a signal station.

An auxiliary station low down near the Sulphur Chan-

nel for use in foggy weather.

The General scheme has, I understand, been concurred in by Your

Excellency.

€, I would therefore request, to be informed if Your Excellency's Government is prepared to hand over to the Admiral- ty the property and buildings now existing as a signal station and lighthouse at Cape D'Aguilar for the above purpose, and if so the terms proposed for the transfer, including upkeen and re-.

pair of buildings etc., and defining the boundaries.

4, It is proposed to place a Naval Staff of three Signalmen at this station for whom accommodation would be re- quired, and I would be glad to know if Your Excellency's Govern- ment is prepared to contribute to the cost of any Native Staff that may be necessary in addition, such as coolies and servants;
